Julia's viola, moving
Moving and music go together. What happens when you expand your awareness of space and movement, as a performing musician? Beethoven played with spatial effects in his string quartets, pelting us with pizzicato notes from unexpected directions. Where you stand, how you stand, or sit, or move, changes the effect of your music. As modern musicians, we take part in flash mobs, play from balconies or on moving stairs, make sound move and move with it. My continuing education in movement and performance opens new possibilities. This summer at the MAPA Summer Academy in Zwolle I experimented with composition on three levels, movement, music and light. Dazzling!
